Campus Life

Community Service

In All Things… Love

Community service plays a large part of our culture here at Salem Academy.  With a spirit of love inspired by our Moravian roots, volunteerism is how we encourage our students to grow and to be an active part of the Salem community.  By learning from differences and uniting under one common goal of service, students are able to enrich the lives of their fellow classmates and the world around them.

Service Learning

During January Term, the entire on-campus student body participates in a day of service in the Winston-Salem community. Recent activities have included visits to the Second Harvest Food Bank, SECU Family House, and Sunnyside Ministries.  In addition to the day of service, a student can elect to take an anti-bullying class and work with students at Summit School.  Also, students can choose to spend their afternoon volunteering at Diggs-Latham Elementary School in  Winston-Salem.

Annual School Halloween Party

Salem Academy takes on the Halloween spirit and hosts an annual Halloween Party! Academy students create a Halloween celebration for foster families of Winston-Salem and for families of a local elementary school. The children will enjoy playing Halloween inspired games and get to trick or treat in our theme-decorated residence halls.

The tradition began during the 1980s, and it has become one of the school’s most beloved event, as students enjoy giving some worthy local kids a great deal of joy while having a little Halloween fun themselves.

A Pledge to Service

All of the organizations and clubs have a commitment to volunteerism and being active in giving back. Each organization/club is required to participate and/or host a service project during the school year.  Additionally, students have the opportunity to join clubs that are specifically service oriented.

Service Specific Organizations/Clubs:

  • Key Club
  • Wellness Committee
  • Honor Guides

At Salem Academy, we believe it is important that everyone – young and old, from every background all across the country – to make volunteerism and community service part of their daily lives. To that end, Salem has asked our students to answer that call.
