Dr. Eileen Cahill, Director of Studies and English teacher at Salem Academy, has been selected to speak at the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Annual Convention in Washington, D.C.
Cahill will present as a member of the panel, “THE POWER OF VOICE,” that will explore, via novels and poetry, characters whose voices have been silenced and/or restrained by a dominant authority and/or repression, but whose stories are finally revealed when they establish a link to family, culture, and self-worth.
Dr. Cahill has taught at Salem Academy since 1998 and currently serves on the AP English Literature and Composition Development Committee, helping to craft the National AP exams that are given annually to high school students. Prior to coming to Salem, she taught at Bryn Mawr College, Temple University, and Wake Forest University.
The National Council of Teachers of English is comprised of over 35,000 individual and institutional members worldwide, dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education. The NCTE Annual Convention draws educators from elementary and secondary institutions, college faculty, administrators, and other educational professions to participate in four days of professional learning programming. The 2014 Convention will be held November 20-23.
