Welcome from the Head of School

Welcome to Salem Academy!

Since 1772, Salem Academy has provided girls in grades 9-12 an outstanding college preparatory education. Our beautiful grounds are adjacent to Salem College, and many of our seniors take classes on the college campus during their senior year. We share a beautiful Fine Arts Center and state of the art Athletic Complex with the College; we also offer dual enrollment classes on our own campus so that students may receive college credit from teachers in their own academic community. As you can guess, we do not succumb to the boundaries of a traditional independent school.

I have often been asked: So why a girls’ school?

I believe in the potential of girls, and I am encouraged by the impact that they will make in the future. I contend that students learn more than academics in a school setting, and it excites me to watch them develop their own passion through the challenges presented to them as well as their own explorations in their academic career. Finally, I embrace the benefits of a single-sex education, for I am the product of one myself. I learned to take risks and find my voice within the confines of a safe classroom, and I have been able to transfer those lessons into my professional life.  At Salem Academy, our graduates are armed with the skills and tools to find success in any environment which they choose to embrace and on any path they choose to embark.

I invite you to visit our campus, explore our website, and contact members of our community so that you can find out for yourself just how special this place is. And as we get closer to our 250th year in 2022, I invite you to be a part of history while you are creating your own.

Far may our song ring clear!
